Hi, I’m Kerry. I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. I’m the inventor and founder of SEALA™.
I’ve always been deeply aware of hand health. My dad grew up in the harsh South African desert and was diagnosed with skin cancer on both of his hands when he was in his early 20's. As early as I can remember in life, my mom would often look down at her own hands and say,
“I wish I’d looked after them better,”
because that was the first place she noticed ageing.
I went on to study marketing, driven by a fascination with business and the psychology of the purchasing process, and found myself specialising early on in the health and wellness industry.
That’s where I developed a true understanding of how certain products can in fact improve lives – helping us cope with the environmental and physical stressors we face every day.
Then, one day, while sitting in a salon with my fresh coat of gel polish curing under the UV lamp, a question struck me like lightning: “Why aren’t my hands protected from this light?”
That single moment set me on a path of research and innovation. I spent months learning about light, wavelengths, and ultraviolet damage, diving deep into how these wavelengths affect skin at a cellular level. I consulted with local labs, bio-scientists, and drew on my understanding of the health and wellness commercial landscape.
And that’s how SEALA was born.
My mission is simple – to give people who love gel manicures an easy, effective way to protect their hands from the damage UV curing lamps cause.
SEALA is a real solution to a real heath problem in a thriving industry (but of course, I encourage you to do your own research when it comes to health and wellness product claims).
Take the time to read through our blogs for discerning information about UV/LED lamps and the science behind skin protection in the light age.
Cheers!
